My three and a half years as a public school teacher convinced me that the biggest problems with public education in my home state of South Carolina are as follows:
- Pedagogy valued over a teacher’s passion for his/her content.
- Ill-trained administrators' (nearly all of whom are former teachers seeking higher pay grades) poor leadership of classroom teachers; their approach based on classroom management principles meant for children.
- Educators are encouraged and even expected to worship the false god of technology.
These are ideological objections. Not one has anything to do with funding levels.
